Verse of the Day

For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you admonished them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you handed them over to the neighboring peoples.

Moses replied, “When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the Lord’s.

So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?

"... I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the Lord.

"'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for one who believes."

To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.

[A desperate and lonely woman who had been ill for years came to Jesus for healing.] She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."

"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God."

Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

[Moses reminds the Israelites of his reaction to seeing the golden calf by saying,] "So I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands, breaking them to pieces before your eyes."

"Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

[In talking about others having the right to be supported in their ministry, the apostle Paul says,] But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me. I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of this boast.

In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.

He replied, "You give them something to eat." They answered, "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish — unless we go and buy food for all this crowd."

On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick."

You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

He answered me, "The sin of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice. They say, 'The Lord has forsaken the land; the Lord does not see.'"

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!"

You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

"Stand up and praise the Lord your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise."

He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied.

"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.
