Verflucht! Aber nicht nur in dem Sinne, dass er verspottet und von seinen Verleumdern verflucht wurde, sondern darin, dass er den Fluch des Todes unserer Sünde wegen trug. Er tat, was abscheulich und skandalös war: er starb am Kreuz — hing dort am Pfahl vor dem Hohngelächter des Mobs, hingerichtet wie der letzte menschliche Abschaum. Doch die Schönheit seiner Schande und Schmach besteht darin, dass Gott uns durch diese Schande und diesen Fluch die Erlösung von dem Fluch unserer eigenen Sünde ermöglichte. Preist Gott! Preist Jesus!
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Cursed! Not just in the sense that he was mocked and his detractors cursed at him, but in the sense that he received the curse of death because of our sin. He did what was hideous and scandalous; he died on a Cross — hung to a tree in front of a jeering mob, executed like sub-human scum. Why? To try and convince the world God cursed him. But the beauty of his shame and disgrace is that God made his sacrifice for our redemption. Jesus' ridicule and curse bought us freedom from the curse of our sins. He became the curse for us so that we could "become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21). Praise God! Praise Jesus! We are redeemed!
Mein Gebet
Allmächtiger Vater, ich kann nicht so tun, als ob ich annährend deine Wege ergründen könnte, vor allem warum du so ein entsetzliches Opfer von dir selbst verlangtest, um mich zu erretten. Kostbarer Heiland, ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, wie es war, als du vor diesem Mob hingst und die Sünde der ganzen Welt getragen hast. Alles, was ich tun kann, ist den vermittelnden Heiligen Geist darum zu bitten, meine Gedanken und Worten so zu gestalten, dass sie die Dankbarkeit meines Herzens zum Ausdruck bringen. Dir, Lob und Dank! Möge mein Leben dich wahrlich ehren. In dem mächtigen Namen Jesu, preise ich dich. Amen.
My Prayer...
Almighty and Abba Father, we can't pretend to fathom your ways and why you would require such a horrific sacrifice of yourself to redeem us. Precious Savior, we can't imagine what it was like to hang before a mob carrying the sin of the whole world — and especially our sins. All we know to do is to ask the Holy Spirit to help our words convey the gratitude of our hearts as he intercedes for us with you now. Thank you! Praise you! We are redeemed! Hallelujah! Amen.
