오늘의 묵상
우리들이 갖고 있는 가장 안좋은 경향은 이것입니다-- 악을 악으로 갚고, 괴롭힘을 받으면 괴롭힘으로 갚아주고, 쩨쩨하게 구는 사람에게 똑같이 갚아주고, 미워하는 사람을 미워하는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 그의 백성들이 세상, 사회, 관계들에서 구원의 영향력을 가지기를 원하십니다. 사도바울은 로마의 그리스도인들에게 악을 악으로 갚지 말라고(로마서 12:17) 상기시켜주었습니다. 오늘 말씀에서도 하나님의 지혜로운 사람이 비슷한 진리를 가르쳐주고 있습니다. 미워하는 것은, 쓴뿌리와 미움의 불꽃을 활활 타오르게 할뿐이지만, 사랑하는 것은 마치 앓던 이를 빼는 것처럼 어려운 상황을 해결해줍니다. 우리는 이 세상과는 다른 종류의 사람이 되도록 부름받았습니다. 그렇게 하는 것이 항상 쉬운 것은 아니지만, 거기엔 항상 강력한 능력이 있습니다.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Our worst tendencies want to repay evil with evil, spite for spite, pettiness with pettiness, and hatefulness with hatefulness. God has always wanted his people to be his redemptive influence in their world, society, and relationships.
Paul reminded the Christians in Rome to "not repay evil with evil" (Romans 12:17).
Jesus said:
Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:44–45)
The apostle Paul also taught Christians in Rome:
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:18-21)
Love removes the teeth from difficult situations while hatefulness only stirs up bitterness and spite. God's wise Old Covenant king shares a similar truth in our verse today. We are called to be a different kind of people, a JESUShaped people who leave the world a different and better place than we found it. It isn't always easy, but Jesus' way is powerful and redemptive in a world where most people expect the worst!

아버지, 부당한 취급을 받으면 화가 나고 앙갚음을 하고싶은 유혹을 느낄 때가 있음을 고백합니다. 부디 성령님의 깨끗하게 하시며 구원하시는 영향력과 사랑의 영감으로 제 마음 깊숙히 놓여진 그런 부분을 없애 주십시오. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
Father, I confess that when I'm wronged, I become angry and am often tempted to strike back in kind of try and get even. Please, remove the baser, self-serving side of my character through your Holy Spirit's cleansing and redeeming influence on my heart. May the love your Spirit inspires in me be seen in how I treat others. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
