오늘의 묵상
성경에 나온 하나님에 대한 모든 표현들 가운데에서 필자가 가장 좋아하는 것은: "(우리가 구하거나 생각하는 것 이상으로) 더욱 넘치게 주실 수 있는 분"이라는 이름입니다. 우리가 믿는 하나님은 홍해를 가르셨고, 몇개 안되는 생선 샌드위치로 푸른 언덕에 가득 앉은 5천명을 먹이신 분과 같은 하나님이십니다. 그분은 우리가 구하거나 상상하는 것 이상으로 행하시기를 원하시는 분이십니다! 하지만 불행하게도 우리들 대부분은 미약한 꿈과 얕은 기도만을 하나님께 드렸을 뿐, 강력한 도전을 안겨드리지 못했습니다. 하나님을 향한 큰 꿈을 꿉시다. 그러면 우리가 상상할 수도 없는 정도로 주님께서 이루실 수 있으니, (주님을) 놓치지 말고 꽉 붙들어야 할 것입니다.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Of all the names for God in the Bible, my favorite is "Him Who-is-Able"! Our God can "do do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine"! Our God is the same God who parted the Red Sea and fed 5,000 people on a green hillside with only a couple of sardine sandwiches. Our Lord not only longs to do more through you and me and the Spirit at work within us, but Jesus also gave us this incredible promise as those who believe:
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son (John 14:12-13).
Unfortunately, most of us haven't really given Jesus much of a challenge with our wimpy dreams and shallow prayers. Let's dream big dreams for God. Let's have great ideas of what he can do through us to reach the lost world. Then hang on for the ride that is more than we can even imagine!
내 기도
전능하시며 제 입이 떡 벌어질 만큼 놀라우신 하나님, 과거에 행하셨던 것들을 오늘 우리 시대에도 행하시옵소서. 잘 믿는 믿음을 주시고, 우리의 현재의 믿음이 얼마나 근시안이었는지 깜짝 놀랄만큼 깨닫게 해 주시옵소서. 하나님의 계획을 볼 수 있는 비젼을 주시고 하나님께서 더 큰 일을 행하시기 원하신다는 것을 믿게 해 주시옵소서. 우리 자신을 위하거나 스스로의 명성을 위해 이것을 구하는 것이 아니며, 하나님의 영광과 이 세상의 구원을 위히여 구합니다. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
Almighty and Awesome God, we pray the prayer of Habakkuk, your prophet:
Lord, [we] have heard of your fame; [we] stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time, make them known... (Habakkuk 3:2).
Please, O Lord, give us faith to imagine and ask for greater things to be done for your glory. Amaze us with your works, which show how shortsighted our faith has really been. We ask this for your glory and the salvation of our world. In Jesus' name, we ask this. Amen.
