오늘의 묵상
하나님께서 자신께 가장 소중한 것을 먼저 희생시키셔서 우리를 구하셨으므로, 하나님께서는 우리 자신을 내어 놓으라고 요구하실 수 있습니다. 단 한가지 문제가 있지요: 제단에 올려진 희생제물이 자꾸만 기어내려오려는 것입니다. 우리는 우리 자신과, 우리의 뜻, 우리의 시간, 우리의 마음, 우리의 헌신을 매일 하나님께 바쳐드려야 합니다. 그렇지 않다면, 제단은 텅 비고 제물이 도망간 상태가 될 것입니다.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Because God went first and sacrificed his most precious gift, Jesus, to save us, he can ask us to surrender ourselves to him. Only one problem: The sorry ol' sacrifice wants to keep crawling off the altar. Let's admit it; talk of sacrifice and being a living sacrifice doesn't sound all that enticing. Except offering ourselves to God is where we find life and find what is most enduring about ourselves. As the famous missionary Jim Elliott profoundly put it: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." We offer ourselves, our will, our time, our heart, our commitment, to God each day because of what he has already done for us, and the greater things he has promised us in the future!
내 기도
거룩하시고 의로우신 구원자시여, 제 삶과 제 몸과 제 뜻을 주님 앞에 복종시키고 싶습니다. 하지만 솔직히 그 제단에 한번도 올려놓지 않았던 작은 것들(어쩌면 대단히 큰 것들)이 있는 것을 고백드립니다. 제가 포기할 수 없는 것들 말입니다. 주님의 주인되심과 다스리심의 영향권 밖에 아무것도 남겨놓지 않는 방식으로, 오늘도 최선을 다하여 주님을 위해 살아가겠습니다. 제가 가진 모든 것과 제 자신의 모든 것을, 오늘부터 영원까지 주님께 바칩니다. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
Holy and Righteous Savior, I want to surrender my life, my body, and will to you. But I confess, there are little things (and maybe some big things) that I keep from ever placing on that altar. Things I don't want to give up. To the best of my ability, I will live for you today in a way that leaves nothing outside your Lordship and control. I offer you me — all that I have and am — to be yours today, and all the forever I have. In Jesus' name. Amen.
