오늘의 묵상
이후 며칠간은 요셉과 마리아가 하나님의 놀라운 은혜를 경험하는 과정을 살펴보도록 합시다. 이 성경구절에서 말씀해 주는 기본적 사실은, 그들이 집을 떠나 남쪽으로 여행했으며 다윗왕의 도시인 베들레헴에 갔고 당시 그들은 약혼상태였으나 아직 결혼하지는 않았으며, 마리아는 임신중이었고, 로마 정부에 호적등록하러 가고 있었습니다. 주변의 흥미를 끌고 스캔들이 될법한 내용들이 짧고 솔직한 문장으로 쓰여 있습니다. 약속과 성취가 강력히 연결되어 있는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 폭풍우 속에서도 신실함이 증명되는 과정입니다. 또한 로마의 호적등록은 당시의 모든 백성에게 영향을 주었던 진실한 역사적 맥락입니다. 스캔들, 약속, 성취, 역사가 모두 충돌하는 현장이었습니다. 예수님은 우리들이 있는 바로 이곳, 즉 스캔들과 실망으로 인해 소망과 꿈이 깨져버리곤 하는 이 세상에 입장하시는 것입니다. 사람들을 구원하실 메시아가 되실 예정이셨습니다. 그분이 태어나기도 전에 미리 알게 된 것입니다. 그러므로 예수님을 더욱 사랑하게 되고 더욱 감사하게 됩니다. 이 세상에 하나님께서 들어오시기로 선택하셨는데 우리와 같은 인간으로서 들어오셨으며, 고귀하고 범접할 수 없는 외계인으로 오신 것이 아닙니다. 우리가 손을 뻗쳐 닿을 수 있고 따를 수 있는 메시아이십니다. 이 예수님은 우리 중의 하나와 같으십니다.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
For the next few days, let's journey with Joseph and Mary as they experience the incredible grace of God in the miraculous birth of God's Son to their family. These verses give us the basics:
- They took a trip south from their home.
- The expectant couple went to Bethlehem, which was King David's home city as well as their own.
- The two were "betrothed" (legally pledged in marriage), but not yet married.
- The time for Jesus to be born was quickly approaching.
- Joseph and Mary were going there to register with the Roman government in Bethlehem as required by the census.
Intrigue about Jesus' biological father hinted at scandal associated with Mary's pregnancy. Themes of promise and fulfillment from the prophets frame the story, reminding us that this is God's story. Human faithfulness amid social, religious, and familial storms echoes throughout the story. The Roman census provides a real historical context for real everyday people who journeyed, risked, sacrificed, and welcomed the newborn Messiah. The Lord enters our world very much in a place where we find ourselves. God has chosen to enter our world in Jesus, Immanuel, as one of us. The Messiah born into such a mess is certainly a Savior and Lord we can reach, follow, and love. This Jesus is one of us.

거룩하시고 사랑하시는 아버지, 예수님이라는 선물을 주셨으니 감사합니다. 모순되고 얄궂고 좌충우돌로 엉망인 이 세상에 예수님께서 들어오셨으니 감사드립니다. 우리들의 몸부림에 대해 냉담하거나 무관심하지 않으셨음을 감사드립니다. 지금 제가 기도드리는 바로 그 이름, 예수님을 주셔서 감사합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
Holy and loving God, thank you for the gift of Jesus. Thank you for entering our messy world with all its contradictions, ironies, and conflicts. Thank you for not being aloof or immune to our struggles, but for sharing in them with us as our Immanuel, "God with us"! Amen.
