오늘의 묵상

예수님께서 배신당하시던 바로 그날에 <우리들>을 위해 기도하셨다는 사실만큼 소중한 것이 또 있을까요! 요한복음 17장을 읽을 때 예수님의 기도는 <제자들>을 위한 것이겠거니 하고 너무 종종 생각하곤 합니다만, 이 기도문을 자세히 들여다보면 예수님께서 "제자들의 말을 듣고 나를 믿는 사람들" 즉 우리들을 위해서 기도하시는 것을 보게 됩니다. 예수님은 우리가 하나되기 원하십니다! 예수님께서 하신 것처럼 똑같은 하나됨, 똑같은 목적의식, 하나님의 성품까지 우리들이 갖추고 살아가기를 원하시는 것입니다. 우리가 그렇게 살지 않는다면, 세상이 그 독생자를 보내신 하나님을 어떻게 알겠습니까? 무엇을 믿어야 할지 그들이 어떻게 깨닫겠습니까? 예수님을 자신들의 구원자로 어떻게 찾을 수 있겠습니까?

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Few things are more precious than knowing that on the night he was betrayed, Jesus not only prayed for his first disciples, but also for us who have come to believe because of their testimony! So often, we read the words of John 17:1-26 and study them as a prayer for Jesus' apostles in the upper room. However, if we examine this prayer closely, we see that Jesus also prays for us, for you and me, who believe in Jesus because of the apostles' message. He knew us, looked forward to us being his disciples, and prayed for us on the night he was betrayed. And, dear friend of the Savior, the Lord wants us to be one! He wants us to live with the same unity, purpose, and character of God that he, as the Son, did. If we do not live and love in unity, then how will the world know that God sent his Son? Notice how Jesus ties our unity to the world, knowing the Father sent him — John 17:21, 23. How will they know what to believe? How will they find Jesus as their Savior? We must be one!

내 기도

아버지, 우리를 용서하시고 변화시키셔서, 우리 삶에서 아버지의 제자로 살아갈 때 무엇이 가장 중요한지 보게 되도록 도우시옵소서. 다양한 종교적 분파로 우리를 나눠놓게 만드는 장벽들을 허무시고, 상황 속에서 또한 가장 존귀하신 주님 안에서 하나되도록 도와주시옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

My Prayer...

Father, forgive us, change us, and help us see what is most important in our lives as your disciples. Break down the barriers that divide us into different religious groups and help us find unity around the One who matters most to all of us, Jesus. It is in his name that we pray for us to be one, just as our Savior prayed on the night he was betrayed. Amen.
