오늘의 묵상

번영에 취한 하나님의 백성들은 주님을 떠났으며 자신들의 우상을 따르고, 자신들이 만든 도덕 수준을 실천하며 살았습니다. 이스라엘 북쪽 지파들은 이교도와 마찬가지로 변해버렸습니다- 역겨울 정도로 부도덕한 삶, 가난한 자와 외국인을 잊어버리고, 과부와 힘없는 자를 속이며 사는 삶의 방식을 택했습니다. 하나님은 그들이 무슨 짓을 하고 있는지 다 알고 계신다는 것을 알려주기 원하셨습니다. 전능하신 분께서는 자신께서 어떤 행동을 하실 지와 정의를 이루실 것이라는 현실을 그들이 직시하기를 원하셨던 것입니다. 주권자 주님께서는 북이스라엘이 자신들의 멸망의 씨를 뿌렸다는 것을 보여주고 싶어하셨는데, 그들은 그것이 어떻게 찾아올지 도저히 가늠할 수 없을 뿐이었습니다. 그 멸망은, 고집센 마음과 선한 성품으로 살아가기를 거부하는 그들 자신 때문에 생기는 결과임을 확실히 하셨던 것입니다. 그들이 파괴된 것을 볼 때, 만약 우리가 그리스도의 성품으로 살아가지 않고, 우리의 마음이 그분의 열정을 나타내지 않으며, 우리의 손이 그분의 뜻을 실천하지 않는다면, 스스로 그리스도인 혹은 하나님의 선택된 거룩한 제사장(베드로전서 2장)이라고 일컫는 것은 별 소용이 없다는 것을, 이 북이스라엘 사람들의 멸망당한 이야기에서 알게 됩니다.

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

In prosperity, God's people left the Lord and followed their own gods and practiced their own morality. Except neither was "their own." The northern tribes of Israel simply became like the pagan people around them — practicing the same detestable immoral lifestyles, forgetting the poor and the alien, cheating the widows and the powerless. God wanted them to know that he knew what they were doing. The Almighty wanted them to realize that he would act and bring justice. The Sovereign Lord wanted the northern tribes of Israel to realize that they have sown their own destruction, and even though they cannot even fathom its possibility, God made sure it was coming because of their hardness of heart and their refusal to live with character. Their destruction is a great reminder to us that our name of Christian, our claim to be God's chosen people and his holy priesthood (1 Peter 2), doesn't matter unless our lives portray his character, our heart displays his compassion, and hands do his will.

내 기도

아버지, 우리가 범죄하므로, 용서해 주십시오. 아버지, 죄를 범하며 사회/사법/인종적으로 정의롭지 못한 다른 길을 찾아다니는 것을 용서해 주십시오. 사랑하는 주님, 우리에게 능력주셔서 당신의 거룩한 나라가 되고, 예수님을 믿는 믿음으로 한데 묶이길 원합니다. 우리의 인종, 나이, 국적, 정치성향, 사회경제적 지위 등에 의해 우리가 엮여지기는 원하지 않습니다. 우리들이 당신께 돌리는 영광의 찬양으로 연결되고, 증오로 가득한 세상에서 우리 아버지 당신을 앎에서 오는 은혜를 예시하여 보여주기 원합니다. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

My Prayer...

Father, forgive us, for we sin. Father, forgive me, for sinning and looking the other way at social, judicial, and racial injustice. Empower me, dear Lord, empower us, to truly be your Holy Nation, bound together by our faith in Jesus and not by our race, age, nationality, political preferences, or social economic status, connected by our praise of your glory and exemplifying to the hate-filled world the grace that comes from knowing you as our Father. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
