For the grace of
God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to un
godliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and
godly lives in this present age...

Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your
God.
Be imitators of
God as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to
God.
Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord
God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts.
You are all sons of
God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
God has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though
God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to
God.
If anyone says, "I love
God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love
God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves
God must also love his brother."
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of
God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life.
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And
God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Do not be deceived:
God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit will reap eternal life."
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask
God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of
God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our
God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
As it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what
God has prepared for those who love him.
I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my
God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
For
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
This is love: not that we loved
God but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither present nor the future, nor powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of
God that is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Dear friends, since
God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen
God; but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
Because of his great love for us,
God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.
We love because [
God] first loved us.
Love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
This is how
God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.
Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but
God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Praise be to the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the
God of all comfort, who comforts us in all of our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from
God.
God has saved us and called us to a holy life — not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
The Lord your
God is
God; he is the faithful
God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.
We know that in all things
God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
As
God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
May the
God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of
God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that
God has promised to those who love him.
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
My salvation and my honor depend on
God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
For there is one
God and one mediator between
God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men — the testimony given in its proper time.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of

God's grace.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
If, when we were
God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life.
The Son is the radiance of
God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
At just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the un
godly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But
God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
This is why you pay taxes, for the authorities are
God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him. If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of
God.
Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to
God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one."
Since the creation of the world,
God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
It is written, "As surely as I live," says the Lord, "every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to
God."
God has chosen you to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.
Jesus is able to save completely those who come to
God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature
God, did not consider equality with
God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!
Without faith it is impossible to please
God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
This is the confidence we have in approaching
God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to
God. And the peace of
God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is
God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ
God forgave you.
You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
The Lord your
God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
Oh, the depth and riches of the wisdom and the knowledge of
God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out.
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
May the
God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given to me — the task of testifying to the gospel of

I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of
God.

Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for
God.
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of
God does not have life.
By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me — a prayer to the
God of my life.
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, give us all things?
Jesus answered, "The work of
God is this: To believe in the one he has sent."

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to

Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of
God, you will receive what he has promised.
We know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living
God.
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of
God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through
God.
Praise be to the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
O
God, you are my
God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
"I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed — I, and not some foreign
god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the Lord, "that I am
God."
It is the Lord your
God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for
God is our refuge.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God's will is — his good, pleasing, and perfect will.
How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no
God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
I desire to do your will, O my
God; your law is within my heart.
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to
God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
All Scripture is
God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of
God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The word of
God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
I urge you, brothers, in view of
God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to
God — this is your spiritual act of worship.
It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God - not by works, so that no one can boast.
Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of
God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which
God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by
God.
This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are
God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'
Since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking
God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
It is
God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of
God.
Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to
God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.
I always thank
God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way — in all your speaking and in all your knowledge.
Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to
God the Father through him.
Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship
God acceptably with reverence and awe.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to
God.

God my Savior.... The Mighty One has done great things for me — holy is his name."
[Zechariah said,] "Praise be to the Lord,

Simeon took him [Jesus] in his arms and praised

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the
Lord your
God will be with you wherever you go.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because
God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
[Joshua said,] "For the
Lord your
God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The
Lord your
God did to the Jordan just what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the
Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the
Lord your

You are to help your brothers until the
Lord gives them rest, as he has done for you, and until they too have taken possession of the land that the
Lord your
God is giving them. After that, you may go back and occupy your own land, which Moses the servant of the
Lord gave you east of the Jordan toward the sunrise.
In
God, whose word I praise, in

Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in
God's sight to obey you rather than
God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard."
For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of
God.
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of
God boldly.
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from
God and not from us.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to
God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
Once you were alienated from
God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.
May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the
Lord Almighty; may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O
God of Israel.

Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the
Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.
I will exalt you, my
God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.
Great is the
Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
Praise the
Lord, O my soul. I will praise the
Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my
God as long as I live.
But you, O
God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.
Religion that
God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Arise,
Lord! Lift up your hand, O
God. Do not forget the helpless.
And my
God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
We always thank
God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.
If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of
God be in him?
The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia — your faith in
God has become known everywhere.
Help us, O
God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name's sake.
Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of
God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.
O
Lord, you are my
God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.
I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given to me — the task of testifying to the gospel of
God's grace.
Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of
God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.
We continually remember before our
God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We constantly pray for you, that our
God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.
Since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking
God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
May the
Lord, the
God of the spirits of all mankind, appoint a man over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the
Lord's people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.
May the
God of peace, ...that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will.
O
God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, for wicked and deceitful men have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues.
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of
God unless they are born of water and the Spirit."
We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our
God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
But [Jesus] said, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of
God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent."
[For the
Lord says about his eternal ruler from Bethlehem,] "He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the
Lord, in the majesty of the name of the
Lord his
God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be their peace."
In [Christ] and through faith in him we may approach
God with freedom and confidence.
In the last days,
God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
Be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
Some of the Jews were persuaded [by the preaching of the Gospel] and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of
God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.
Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O
God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.
To all who received [the Word, that is Jesus Christ], to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of
God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of
God.
You gave abundant showers, O
God; you refreshed your weary inheritance.
A bright cloud enveloped them [Peter, James, John, and Jesus,] and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"
Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him
God the Father has placed his seal of approval.
People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of
God belongs to such as these."
By
God's will I may come to you with joy and together with you be refreshed.
Be careful not to do your "acts of righteousness" before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
Repent, then, and turn to
God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
If you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of
God.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in
God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
Show me your ways, O
Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are
God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Stand up and praise the
Lord your
God, who is from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise.
Without faith it is impossible to please
God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of
God.
You, O
God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.
God "will give to each person according to what he has done" (Psalm 62:12). To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.
Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your
God. I am the
Lord.
[Paul spoke to the educated people of Athens and explained,] "
God [made all people from one man] so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us."
Help us, O
God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name's sake.
For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from
God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to
God.
For [the Father] has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.
But let all who take refuge in you [O
God] be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
[Rebellious and vile sinners] is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our
God.
If you do not obey the
Lord, and if you rebel against his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your fathers.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with
God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of
God.
Who among the
gods is like you, O
Lord? Who is like you — majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship
God acceptably with reverence and awe for our
God is a consuming fire.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to
God in Christ Jesus.
He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of
God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.
The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of
God lives forever.
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify
God on the day he visits us.
Be exalted, O
Lord, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might.
I am the Lord your
God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other
gods before me.
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
But remember the
Lord your
God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that
God has promised to those who love him.
We wait for the blessed hope of the glorious appearing of our great
God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.
Thanks be to
God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.
In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
[Paul shared this thanksgiving with his son in the faith, Timothy.] I thank
God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.
We ought always to thank
God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.
I am suffering ... Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.
May the righteous be glad and rejoice before
God; may they be happy and joyful.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of
God.
To the only wise
God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.
You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to
God.
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of
God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.
For this is what the high and exalted One says — he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
I will praise
God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
O
Lord, ... be not silent. Do not be far from me, O Lord. Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my
God and Lord.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to
God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through
God.
When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that the
Lord your
God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
I will praise
God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. This will please the
Lord more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs. The poor will see and be glad — you who seek
God, may your hearts live!
[Jesus] had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to
God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
You know my folly, O
God; my guilt is not hidden from you. May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the
Lord Almighty; may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O
God of Israel.
Grace and peace to you from
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age...
God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was
God.
For
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For
God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Now to [
God] who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ... to the only wise
God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord
God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
In the beginning
God created the heavens and the earth.
He [the Word, the One we know as Jesus,] was with
God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
The Son is the radiance of
God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that
God has promised to those who love him.
You were marked in [Christ] with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are
God's possession — to the praise of his glory.
Ruth replied [to her mother-in-law, Naomi]: "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your
God my
God."
For since the creation of the world
God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
See, the
Lord your
God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the
Lord, the
God of your fathers, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Once you were alienated from
God ... but now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of
God.
To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy — to the only
God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
Then
God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
So
God created man in his own image, in the image of
God he created him; male and female he created them.
Then I said to you, "Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The
Lord your
God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes."
...you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from
God — that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
But because of his great love for us,
God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature
God, did not consider equality with
God something to be grasped...
...the
Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God — not by works, so that no one can boast.
For we are
God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which
God prepared in advance for us to do.
"Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror," declares the
Lord. "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water."
[The
Lord declares,] "Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the
Lord your
God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity."
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of

"I hate divorce," says the
Lord God of Israel, ..."So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith."
The
Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
"[Jesus] was handed over to you by
God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross."
Daniel replied, "No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a
God in heaven who reveals mysteries."
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of
God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." Clearly no one is justified before
God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith."
Therefore, as
God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
For
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For
God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Repent, then, and turn to
God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Christ, who he has appointed for you — even Jesus.
But now a righteousness from
God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from
God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
[There is no difference between Jew and non-Jew in regard to righteousness,] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
You are all sons of
God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous
God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer.
It is
God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality...
But when the time had fully come,
God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
Because you are sons,
God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father."
So you are no longer a slave, but
God’s child; and since you are his child,
God has made you also an heir.
For
God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but
God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
Submit yourselves, then, to
God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to
God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me — put it into practice. And the
God of peace will be with you.
This is love: not that we loved
God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of
God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength
God provides, so that in all things
God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that
God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
To our
God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
And he has given us this command: Whoever loves
God must also love his brother.
[Jesus continued his message, saying:] "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
But if from there you seek the
Lord your
God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of
God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with
God through our Lord Jesus Christ...
Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before
God.
God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.
[The
Lord's Messiah] will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the
Lord, in the majesty of the name of the
Lord his
God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be their peace.
And hope does not disappoint us, because
God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
[The
Lord said to Israel,] "I am the
Lord your
God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other
gods before me."
Cast all your anxiety on [
God] because he cares for you.
But
God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
For
God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of
God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the
Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of
God.
May
God himself, the
God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of
God and those who hear will live.
Everyone was amazed and gave praise to
God. They were filled with awe and said, "We have seen remarkable things today."
Peter and the other apostles replied [to their religious critics among the Sadducees, priests, and Sanhedrin]: "We must obey
God rather than men!"
[Peter continued the apostles' defense for proclaiming Jesus as Messiah and Lord:] "The
God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead — whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree."
[Jesus taught his disciples, "When] you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
Do not be deceived:
God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to
God in Christ Jesus.
Therefore put on the full armor of
God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule — to the Israel of
God. Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.
But thanks be to
God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
[Solomon declared as he dedicated the Temple:] "But will
God really dwell on earth with men? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!"
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from
God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor
God with your body.
Noah did everything just as
God commanded him.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
"I [Darius King of Persia] issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the
God of Daniel. For he is the living
God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions."
Jesus answered, "The work of
God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
O
Lord my
God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me...
This is what the
Lord Almighty, the
God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place.
O righteous
God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure.
And [the great multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language] cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our
God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."
[Job declared,] "Therefore I will not keep silent; I will speak out in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul."
[The
Lord appeared to Solomon upon the completion of the temple and said,] "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
[One of the elders from around the throne of
God declared:] "For [Jesus] the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
[Moses addressed Israel, reminding them of
God's deliverance of them from Egypt, and his commands given to them:] "You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the miraculous signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the
Lord your
God brought you out [from bondage and delivered you.]. The
Lord your
God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear."
[Speaking to the Israelites about their enemies, Moses said:] "Do not be terrified by them, for the
Lord your
God, who is among you, is a great and awesome
God."
[King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:] "How great you are, O Sovereign
Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no
God but you, as we have heard with our own ears."
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to
God — through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Moses thought that his own people would realize that
God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.
For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature,
God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
And [the young Macedonian believers] did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with
God's will.
But food does not bring us near to
God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do. Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of
God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of
God are children of
God.
You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the
Lord your
God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their
God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
In the same way [as the Spirit blesses us in so many ways in our lives], the Spirit [also] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with
God’s will.
And we know that in all things
God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of
God might be displayed in his life."
And the Levites ... said: "Stand up and praise the

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from
God. Everyone who loves has been born of
God and knows
God.
Whoever does not love does not know
God, because
God is love.
This is how
God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
This is love: not that we loved
God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Dear friends, since
God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
No one has ever seen
God; but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Jabez cried out to the

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are

God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise;
God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from
God — that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me — put it into practice. And the
God of peace will be with you.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to
God.
And the peace of
God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
And my
God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to
God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.
But thanks be to
God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber...
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.
To our
God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask
God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
Search me, O
God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

God has prepared for those who love him."

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The
Lord is the everlasting
God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

The Spirit of the Sovereign
Lord is on me, because the
Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the
Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our
God, to comfort all who mourn...
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If
God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
For everyone born of
God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
He answered, "Do you not know what these are?"
"No, my lord," I replied.
So he said to me, "This is the word of the
Lord to Zerubbabel: `Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,'" says the
Lord Almighty.
For the
Lord God is a sun and shield; the

God and man.
And we know that in all things
God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
"Love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
For the word of
God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the
Lord your
God will be with you wherever you go."
We wait for the blessed hope — the glorious appearing of our great
God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of
God to be revealed.

Praise be to the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the
God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from
God.
For
God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
Put on the full armor of
God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of
God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
I will say of the
Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my
God, in whom I trust."

God loves a cheerful giver.
Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is
God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
The
Lord your
God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for
God.
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved — and that by
God.
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" — which means, "
God with us."
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of
God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature
God, did not consider equality with
God something to be grasped...
Therefore
God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name...

For
